Bob purchased his first Tennessee Walking Horse and attended his first Celebration in 1954. He and his father-in-law formed Harber and Cherry Stables in his home town, Centerville, Tennessee, in 1962, and he worked as a professional trainer for over 20 years. During that time he held positions on the board of directors of the Walking Horse Trainers Association, the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders & Exhibitors Association and the National Horse Show Commission. He was elected Trainer of the Year in 1971 and served as the first Executive Director of the Walking Horse Owners Association in the late 1970s. Cherry has served as a horse show judge for almost every major show in the country, including the National Tennessee Walking Horse Celebration in 1976 and again in 2004. He was inducted into the Celebration Hall of Fame in 1999 and served as Executive Director of the TWHBEA from 1991-2002. After many years out of the show ring and currently retired, he began showing again in 2006.

Bob’s vision for the Foundation is primarily focused on the youth programs ... programs that currently exist and the development of new programs that educate young people about our breed and business. In addition to that, he thinks it is essential for the Foundation to support all aspects of this breed and business and to constantly work to improve the health and welfare of our breed
